The notorious "Million Dollar" Lincoln County Courthouse was built in 1871 at an original estimated cost of $16,400.00. The combination of many things, such as broken contracts, inflated material costs, decline in mining and tax revenue, interest on bond payment dragging on for many years and failure of elected officers to resolve the problems promptly resulted in the building finally costing the "Million Dollars" It was paid off in 1937 as the New Courthouse was being built
